Sailing area Algarve, Portugal
Marina Vilamoura - Marina Portimao
The Algarve is an area that covers the whole Southern coast line of Portugal. From Lagos to Sagres the coast line is
steep and rocky with small sheltered sandy beaches between the cliffs.
In Sagres you will find the Escola Nautico, the in 1417 founded nautical education centre and space observatory by
Henry. The small marina is provided with a traditional shipyard where the typical Portuguese colourful wooden
fishing boats are build.
Lagos is historical connected with the sea and has a modern marina with all facilities. The old centre has a good atmosphere and
in the typical Portuguese restaurants you can eat the best fish, lobster, crab fish, prawn and of course piri-piri chicken.
Close to the marina you will find a 8 Km long sandy beach named Meia Praia.
Portimao is situated closed to the beach of Praia de Rocha, at the estuary of the river Arade. We recommend you to visit the fish and
vegetable market, a walk through the village and to visit the fortress. The modern and well maintained marina is at walking distance
from Praia de Rocha, which offers you several relaxing beach restaurants where you can enjoy until the late hours delicious food in
combination with a beautiful sky full of stars.
Vilamoura: this seaside resort with her luxurious U-shaped marina and trendy shops is an attractive place for the Portugese jet set. Many celebrities are staying here for holidays. Vilamoura is situated close to Quarteira.
This divers sailing area offers you all possibilities to visit modern marinas or anchor your yacht in old pitoresque harbours and is a brilliant area for coastal sailors.
If you prefer to cross the sea, you can choose for a cruise to the Portuguese flower island Madeira.
In this area you can go to all directions: sailing east to Cadiz, Spain and Gibraltar. Sailing west to Sagres and even cross the
Atlantic Ocean to Madeira and Acores!
